HORSE MEAT-ARE WE KILLING THE FRENCH?

Something curious came up the other day.  I was at a friends' house because her fourteen year old paint mare has been "off" and we were having the Vet do x-rays so that we could formulate a plan of action and get to root of the problem, and solve it.

Well, anyway, during the course of the morning the Vet received a text message that he just had to share with us.  A client with a really old horse had figured that it was time to put the horse to sleep, to euthanize the horse.  She wanted to know if the Vet could meet her at the feed lot!  I don't know of any slaughter houses in the area at all so she probably, hopefully, meant to meet her at the Rendering Plant where you take the dead horses to be processed and save herself the $300 it would cost to haul it away.

My friend automatically thought that she wanted the Vet to meet her at the slaughter house so she could recoup her money she paid for the euthanasia by selling the dead horse by the pound for horse meat.  If you have ever seen a horse euthanized, it is a big, I mean huge, shot of poison that stops the heart as quick as a snap.  My friend asked me "Well, they can't sell contaminated meat, can they?"  I pondered that question and if there was a slaughter house around here, and that was where the client was going to bring the euthanized horse, I believe yes, they could sell the contaminated meat.  Hell, they already do in Canada, Mexico and some parts of the United States!  France and Belgium buy a lot of horse meat.  I read on the Fugly Blog that France and Belgium love horse meat.  Hundreds and hundreds of our race horses end up at a slaughter house every month.  These race horses have been pumped with more drugs than a homeless hooker.  The meat is almost always contaminated.  Repeat after me…THE HORSE INDUSTRY IN THE UNITED STATES IS NOT REGULATED.  THE HORSE INDUSTRY IN THE UNITED STATES IS NOT REGULATED. The law makers in the United States have no respect for the horses that basically built this country!  SHAME, SHAME, SHAME.

Sorry 'bout that..I got carried away.  Think about this..I wonder if we are killing the French and Belgiums?  Are we slowly killing these people that are eating  contaminated meat that ships from the United States?  Maybe one of our French readers can coment on this subject or give us some research?  I wonder how many horse owners there are in France?  Are there any Race Tracks in France?  Do the French eat their own horses?  How many other Countries eat horse meat?

Can we have some comments please?

HERE IS A COMMENT FROM “CHEF JOHN”

Yes, there are many recipes around the globe that contain horse meat.  It is actually quite tasty.  People eat it in the U.S. also, as well as feed it to their dogs.

As far as the drug contaminated horse meat goes, if you are eating any dairy from the U.S. you are getting more drugs, growth hormones, steroids, etc. than you will ever find in the horse meat you might eat.
