VETERICYN
Vetericyn is a new topical treatment that is supposed to be the new miracle wound treatment spray for all animals. It “kills virtually any infection, yet is completely non-toxic…and improves healing time by up to 60%”. We have heard great things about the product even from some Vets.
One year ago last spring I discovered a small cut on the front leg of my horse Hoss. He must have stepped on it when he was getting up from his daily nap. It wasn’t that bad. Later we scrubbed it with Betadine and sprayed a shield product on it.
We repeated this treatment for about a week. It progressively got worse! Our Vet was called out to take a look at it because we were concerned. Our Vet diagnosed it as a “summer sore” caused when fly larva get into a wound and imbed in the flesh. The Vet said that the only way to treat this was to remove the fly larva surgically. So we sedated the horse and numbed the wound. The Vet performed the procedure and all appeared to be OK. We treated the wound with a cortisone cream and fed the horse cortisone powder every day for a week. We had to keep the wound wrapped. This was when a friend of ours recommended Vetericyn. My dad bought a bottle and it was really expensive, $28 for an 8 ounce bottle! We started treating Hoss with Vetericyn. Within 4 days it got worse!

We again had our Vet come out and look at the wound and again he performed the same surgical procedure. We again started wrapping the wound. This time I used products that I knew would do the job of healing this sore. I used a cortisone cream and a product called Blu Coat. Blu Coat has been around forever and is inexpensive. Within 2 days the wound looked better and within a week it was almost completely healed!

This is how the sore looked after two weeks of our treatment without Vetericyn.

Don’t waste your money on Vetericyn for treating “summer sores” of any kind. We informed Vetericyn of our experience and they conducted a thorough investigation of the particular batch which produced our bottle and advised of that the Vetericyn product we used “meets the product specifications and was safe and effective”. That is really scary! It is just oxygenated water and chlorine bleach by their own analysis. They sent me another bottle free of charge and I sent it back.
Can we hear from you?
